Mentre stiamo ancora assimilando il nuovo pazzesco disco dei The Knife, “Shaking the Habitual”, a giorni arriva anche un altro autorevole candidato al titolo di album dell’anno. Parliamo di “Overgrown”, l’opera seconda di James Blake, in uscita l’8 aprile. Dopo “Retrograde“, a darci una nuova super intrippante anticipazione ci pensa il singolo “Voyeur”, accompagnato da un video che è un trip ancora maggiore. Dinamici, energici, trascinanti, originali, sopraffini, questi sono solo alcuni degli aggettivi che si possono associare ai Vintage Trouble, gruppo californiano (sono di Hollywood) quasi sconosciuto in Italia ma di sicuro avvenire e di grande spessore artistico. Il loro manager, lo stesso dei Kiss, è sicuramente un grande intenditore di musica e in loro ha visto una fiamma, quella vena artistica che può solo contagiare e che lunedì 5 dicembre ha assolutamente fatto innamorare il pubblico della Salumeria della Musica.

Giunti in Italia in sordina durante un tour che li porterà presto in Inghilterra dove hanno raggiunto la posizione 49 della chart e forti del premio come migliore Band emergente del 2011, anno della loro formazione, hanno letteralmente travolto il pubblico a colpi di soul, rock e blues mischiati in uno stile forte e dal sapore antico.

Alla prima canzone non puoi fare a meno di cominciare a muovere i piedi a ritmo, dopo trenta secondi ti ritrovi, senza volere, davanti al palco a ballare. Ty Taylor il frontman e voce del gruppo ha una carica che raramente abbiamo visto anche in grandi star della musica. La sua voce vellutata e forte accarezza la musica come un sax accompagna un grande assolo. Nessuna stonatura, nessuna incertezza un canto pieno che ti arriva dritto al cuore lacerandolo in un impeto di gioia. Una delle voci “emergenti” migliori sentite fino ad ora.

Il resto del gruppo formato da Nalle Colt alla chitarra, Rick Barrio Dill al basso e Richard Danielson alla batteria, sembra nato per questo genere musicale, tutti assieme danno forza al loro repertorio e le canzoni scorrono durante la serata con una passione e una carica sfrenata. Blues Hand Me Down, Gracefully, Nancy Lee, Nobody Told Me, Run Outta You sono alcuni dei pezzi eseguiti, uno più bello dell’altro, e tutti interpretati alla perfezione dalla band che non solo suona ma fa spettacolo, cattura il pubblico e lo porta in un esperienza tridimensionale. Ty poi gioca con i fan canta con loro, gli cede il microfono, scherza chiacchiera, fa tutto parte di un copione che per un’ora e mezza tiene tutti con gli occhi verso il palco facendo volare il tempo in un secondo.

Vogliamo fare un appunto? Forse a questo gruppo manca ancora il singolo mondiale che permetterebbe loro di entrare tra i grandi della musica, siamo certi che arriverà, perchè il talento è eccezionale. In pochi li conoscono, ma se vi dovesse capitare l’occasione di vederli dal vivo non rinunciate, ne vale la pena.  Il loro CD si chiama: The Bomb Shelter Session e loro sono i Vintage Trouble.

Dynamic, energetic, catchy, original, superfine, these are just some of the adjectives that can be associated with Vintage Trouble, Californian group (born inHollywood) almost unknown in Italy, but certainly be of great artistic value. Their manager, the same as Kiss, is definitely a great connoisseur of music and saw in them a flame, the artistic talent that can only infect and Monday, December 5 has absolutely fall in love the public of Salumeria della Musica in Milan .

Once in Italy on the sly during a tour that will take them to England soon reached the position where 49 of the chart and the award for best new bands of 2011, the year of their training, have literally swept the audience shots of soul, rock and mixed in a blues style, strong and ancient taste.

The rest of the group formed by Nalle Colt on guitar, Rick Barrio Dill on bass and Richard Danielson on drums, seems born for this kind of music, all together give strength to their repertoire and the songs flow during the evening with a passion and unbridled charge .Blues Hand Me Down , Gracefully, Nancy Lee, Nobody Told Me, Run Outta You have some of the pieces performed, one of the most beautiful, and all played to perfection by the band not only sounds but it does show, captures the public and leads in a three-dimensional experience.

Ty then plays with fans singing with them gave him the microphone, chat jokes, it’s all part of a script that takes an hour and a half with all eyes toward the stage by flying at a later time. Origini spagnole, baleariche, per Ilya Santana, uno che attualmente ed anche nel recente passato ha catturato la mia attenzione grazie a delle produzioni di rara qualità.

Il suono, e non potrebbe essere diversamente, risente quasi completamente del ritmo e delle attitudini delle sue isolette madri: la leggerezza delle percussioni e le lunghe melodie soulful fanno da contorno alle linee di basso prettamente funky – o nu funk, per essere moderni – ed il risultato è un perfetto mix tra tradizione ed innovazione; tra house ed elettronica.

La sua storia passa per Moroder o Vangelis e si contamina coi più recenti Lindstrom, Prins Thomas e via dicendo..Nel giro di poco tempo ha sfornato ottime produzioni su Permanent Vacation e Gomma, remixando Human League, Lindstrom, tanto per fare piccoli, ma significativi esempi.

Spanish origins for Ilya Santana, one that is currently in the recent past has caught my attention due to the production of rare quality.

The sound, and could not be otherwise affected nearly the pace and abilities of its islands: the lightness of the percussion and the long soulfoul melodies surround the purely funky bass lines - or nu funk, to be modern - and the result is a perfect mix between tradition and innovation, between house and electronic music.

Molti pensano che gli anni ‘ 80 siano stati musicalmente i meno fertili: ottusi.
C’era molta creatività, invece, fantasia, entusiasmo.. c’era il pop.
Credere che la storia della musica sia raccontata solo dal rock e non riconoscere anche l’impatto musicale pop è  arenarsi in stereotipi da snob.
Pensare a George Michaelunicamente come al fattone che si schianta in macchina (sbronzo) contro le vetrine di un negozio o che fa sesso in un bagno pubblico è da bigotti.

George è stato colui che ha dato valore e prestigio al pop.  Ha mostrato a tutti che si poteva creare un prodotto sofisticato e di valore apprezzato su scala popolare.
Dopo lo scioglimento degli Wham, duo  di cui faceva parte con Andrew Ridgeley,  prosegue la carriera solista, pubblicando nel 1987 l’album Faith, prodotto pop ben confezionato, registrato con una purezza di suono assoluta, cavalcato dalla voce suadente e penetrante di un interprete in grado di passare con la massima disinvoltura da ritmi funk a ballate commoventi.
Ritornelli che trascinano, ritmi incalzanti che divertono e fanno muovere le gambe, Faith non è solo un album divertente è anche  romantico e delicato senza essere mieloso.
I brani hanno umori diversi, non si è mai annoiati, le atmosfere e le situazioni cambiano in ogni canzone.

I suoni, le casse e le campionature sono di qualità eccelsa, come solo i migliori professionisti del Regno Unito a quei tempi sapevano garantire.
A rifinire questo bel prodotto il volto di nuovo sex symbol: riscattatosi dall’immagine del biondino sbarbato di pochi anni prima, George Michael si presenta con barba incolta, orecchino e giubbotto di pelle stile biker, bello e quasi dannato.
Morbido e sorprendentemente chic, Faith resta indimenticato in tutto il mondo: l’apoteosi del pop.

Many people think the 80′s were the least musically fertile: dulls.
There was however a lot of creativity, imagination, enthusiasm .. There was pop.
Believing that the history of music is told only from rock and not recognizing the impact of the 80′s music, is conking out in a snobby stereotype.
Thinking about George Michael as  a drunk car crasher against the windows of a shop or while he having sex in a public restroom is bigoted.

George was the one who gave value and prestige to pop. He showed everyone that you could create a sophisticated product and value enjoyed wide popular.
After the breakup of Wham, in which sang with Andrew Ridgeley , continues his solo career, releasing the album Faith in 1987, a well-packaged pop product, registered with an absolute purity of tone, ridden by a soothing and penetrating voice from sung by a performer able to move from funky rhythms to moving ballads.

Swinging choruses , fast-paced, fun and that make your legs move.  But Faith is not just a fun album is also a delicate and romantic without being saccharine.
The songs have different moods, you’re never bored, the atmospheres and situations change in every song. The sounds, the drums and the samples are of excellent quality, as only the best professionals in the United Kingdom guaranteed at that time.

 To finish this fine product, the face of new sex symbol:redemeed by the image of blond shaved guy of a few years earlier, George Michael is presented with a beard, earring and leather jacket biker style, beautiful and  almost damned.
Soft and surprisingly chic, Faith remains unforgotten around the world: the apotheosis of pop.

We pay tribute to the talent.

Era il 1994 e Jeff Buckley seguiva in punta di piedi le orme del padre publicando il suo primo, e unico, album: Grace.

Jeff raccoglie in modo timido e rispettoso l’eredità di Tim e al tempo stesso prova a liberarsene con umiltà, senza superbia.

Grace è senza tempo, non è schiavo delle mode, non risente di nessuna influenza se non quella dell’anima fragile e contrastata di Jeff.  E’ quasi totalmente acustico, composto da suoni caldi e raccontato con toni introversi. E’ un album che non vuole sperimentare, non vuole raccontare, non si investe di alcun ruolo didattico e Jeff Buckley non è un rocker maledetto e non è nemmeno un poeta, è un interprete che esprime se stesso soprattutto nei modi. Non sono le parole o la musica a fare grande questo lavoro, ma Jeff, che ha messo se’ stesso in ogni sospiro, in ogni nota che ha calvalcato con la sua voce, timorosa, discreta ma emozionante e piena di tormenti.

E’ un rock piacevole,  delicato, elevato. Fascinosi organi e arpe rimandano a luoghi e profumi senza date: solo puro trasporto.  Gli accordi e le dinamiche musicali sono semplici ma molto emotive. Degna di nota, immortale, la versione di Hallelujah di Leonard Cohen, un canto non solo religioso, molto di più: spirituale.

Ci ha lasciato solo Grace, un album che da solo basterà per ricordarci che la storia della musica è stata scritta anche dai timidi.

It was 1994 and Jeff Buckley followed tiptoe in his father’s footsteps publishing his first, and only, album, Grace.

Jeff collects so shy and respectful of the legacy of Tim and at the same time trying to get rid of it with humility, not pride.

Grace is timeless, is not a slave to fashion, is not affected by any influence other than Jeff’‘s soul, fragile and contrasted. It ‘s almost entirely acoustic, composed of warm sounds and told with introverts tone. It is an album that does’nt want to experiment, does not want to tell, does not invest in any educational role and Jeff Buckley is not a cursed rocker and he is not a poet,  he is a performer who expresses himself in his particular ways. There are not the words or music to make this work great, but Jeff, who put himself same in every breathe, in every note that he rode with his voice, timid, discreet but exciting and full of torment.

It’s a pleasant rock, delicate, high. Fascinating organs and harps remind no time places and smells, only pure transport. Agreements and dynamic music are simple but very emotional. Noteworthy, immortal, the version of Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen, a song not only religious, much more: spiritual.

He left only Grace, an album that will be enough to remind us that the history of music was also written by timid guys.

Una semplice meraviglia, “The Deep Field” di Joan As Police Woman. Un disco di quelli fatti per stare bene. Un soul bianco più caldo di quello nero. Atmosfere sognanti e magiche. Una voce leggermente distorta. Un’apertura che si chiama “Nervous” e invece ti rilassa e ti stende con la sua bellezza infinita. Un primo singolo “The Magic” con una linea di basso che ricorda “Cry me a river” di Justin Timberlake e passa su Mtv. Canzoni all’apparenza semplici che all’improvviso si trasformano per miracolo in un miracolo. Quasi tutti i pezzi qui presenti a un certo punto hanno una trasformazione verso il lato oscuro alla Black Swan. Una donna poliziotto ormai totalmente mutata in soul (police) woman. Una semplice meraviglia, l’ho già detto?

A simple wonder, “The Deep Field” by Joan As Police Woman. One of those records made to make you feel good. One with a white soul hotter than the black one. A dreamy and magical atmosphere. A slightly distorted voice. An opening called “Nervous” while instead relax your soul and knock you down with its infinite beauty. A first single “The Magic” with a bass line reminding me of “Cry Me A River” by Justin Timberlake also played on Mtv. Apparently simple songs that suddenly turn into miracles by some miracle. Almost every track has a transformation towards the dark side, like we were in “Black Swan”. A police woman turned into a soul (police) woman. A simple wonder, have I already told ya?
