CULT NOT CLASSIC: RAY OF LIGHT- MADONNA

Ray of light è il settimo album in studio di Madonna e segna una rivoluzione nell’universo di questa artista.

Risente in particolare di due eventi: la maternità e la conversione; il filo conduttore di tutto questo lavoro è il tema della nascita, sia spirituale sia filiale. Una nuova alba, un nuovo inizio, una nuova presenza illumina questo progetto, lo fa brillare, regala emozioni palpabili meno patinate, meno costruite a tavolino e più realmente condivisibili. Che Madonna sia vittima di delirio post partum o semplicemente satura di yoga e diete macrobiotiche poco ci importa: questo è il suo lavoro migliore. Quest’artista così trasformista e trasgressiva si mostra per la prima volta come una donna, sicuramente non comune, ma comunque donna e madre.

Le atmosfere mistiche sono bene assortite e mescolate con la techno e il trip hop di William Orbit, che ha riempito l’album di suoni avanguardisti, rendendolo più elettronico e senz’altro meno pop rispetto ai lavori precedenti. Per un attimo Madonna sembra quasi più un’artista che una mera imprenditrice di se stessa.

Ray of light è scritto essenzialmente in maniera diversa rispetto agli album precedenti, abbandona i panni di icona del sesso, rinnega forse se stessa , ma rappresenta il modo di evolversi di una donna che riconosce finalmente di essere umana, di poter invecchiare e di poter essere anche altro rispetto al passato.

Dopo questo lavoro, Madonna ha detto tutto, quello che verrà dopo sarà solo un soppravvalutare se stessa. Però Ray of light è intenso e finalmente meno “material” e più umano: vale la pena annoverarlo nella propria collezione di cd anni novanta.

Ray of Light is the seventh studio album by Madonna and marks a revolution in the universe of this artist.
It feels, in particular, the effects of two events: the motherhood and the conversion, the common thread of all this work is the theme of the birth, both spiritual and of her daughter. A new dawn, a new beginning, a new presence illuminates this project, it make it shines, with emotions palpable less glossy, less built around a table and more truly shared. If Madonna is a victim of delirium post-partum or simply she is saturated with yoga and macrobiotic diets not matter to us: this is her best work. This so transgressive and quick change artist  shows herself for the first time as a woman, certainly not common, but a woman and mother.

The mystical atmosphere are well graded and mixed with techno and trip-hop of William Orbit, who has filled the album of avant-garde sounds, making more electronic, and definitely less pop than previous works. For a moment, Madonna seems more an artist than just a business woman herself.

Ray of light is essentially written in a different way than the previous albums, she abandons the role of sex icon, maybe dening herself, but this album represents the way of evolution of a woman who finally recognizes she is a human being, she can became old and she can be  something different than she was in the past.

After this work, Madonna has said everything, what comes next will only be a soppravvalutare herself. But Ray of light is less intense and finally less ”material” and more human: it is worth have it in your nineties CD collection.
