Future Garage Roundup

Continuo a ritenere il future garage il fenomeno attualmente più piacevole, autenticamente fresco e interessante del panorama dell’elettronica britannica contemporanea, o almeno di quella per così dire più “di consumo”. Da XXXY a Indigo alle release di Hessle, Fortified e Hyperdub ci sono tanti nomi e tante uscite che vale la pena di ascoltare e apprezzare, più di altro materiale più mainstream – e a mio avviso più noioso, modaiolo e sclerotizzato (Jamie XX, James Blake e simili). Trovo molto affascinante il fil rouge musicale che collega tantissime manifestazioni dell’elettronica britannica, dalla scena rave di inizio anni ’90 fino a ora, mi sembra sempre di avvertire qualcosa di simile e ricorrente, come una rotazione di echi, che si muove in sottofondo.

I still personally find future garage the cooler and most interesting phenomenon of British contemporary music. Or at least, of its “consumer” side. From XXY to Indigo to Hessle, Fortified or Hyperdub releases, there’s plenty of names worth a listen, far more than other mainstream and more boring, trendy and sclerotised material (Jamie XX, James Blake and similar). I always feel there’s a deep, same pattern moving underneath British electronic acts, a sort of a circulation of sounds and echoes, a fil rouge linking all Brit acts from early ’90s rave scene musicians to nowadays music.
